IT’S SKATER INFORMATION SUNDAY!
Sunday is a fabulous day, where you can find out about your favorite skaters or fun skating facts or anything else we decide falls under this category.
First up: Luna Shovegood!
How did you discover SVDV: “I first heard about roller derby from JK Brawling and then Punky, who both tried convincing me just to watch this crazy dangerous sport. I came out to a bout for the first time last year, had no idea what the rules were, but fell in love anyway… so here I am!”
When did you get involved: “Immediately after that first bout, I decided I wanted to join. My first Kit (fresh meat) class was on March 12. My derbyversary is coming up this month!”
What do your derby name and number mean to you?: “I’ve been obsessed with Harry Potter for about 13 years now, so I knew right away I wanted a Harry Potter name, but I also wanted something that sounded tough. I identified as a Ravenclaw, so Luna Shovegood was all sorts of perfect. My lucky number is two, but since that was taken, I decided to use my mom’s lucky number because she really helped me decide this was something I needed to do. Thanks, Mom!”
What are your favorite derby positions to play and why?: “That tiny girl must love jamming, right? Wrong! I love blocking. I work best with my team, so forming a wall that the jammer can’t get through is awesome. However, I’m trying to get over my fears and jam this year, so if you see me with that star, cross your fingers I don’t die.”
The horror! Clearly, I need more roller derby blogs!
